ABSECON DOWNTOWN
FAIR
|

With over 2000 (some say 2,500) people attending, the 12th Annual Absecon Downtown Fair was a huge success. There were Bouncy Rides, Obstacle Course Races, Live Bands, a Pizza Eating Contests and Minnow Races for the kids. For those of us not ready for prime time competition, there was plenty of food including soft pretzels, sausages, cotton candy, pizza, hotdogs, Alex’s Lemonade and more for all to enjoy. Of course there was, as always, a number of vendors and local merchants promoting and selling their wares. Fire engines and other static displays were available for all to enjoy as well as bands and other entertainment.
The Fair sponsored by A.B.C.D., (The Absecon Business and Commercial Development Corporation, Inc.), comprised of Absecon’s business owners and The Bank is held annually on New Jersey Avenue. Its purpose is to promote the Downtown Business District of the City of Absecon, its merchants and organizations and to just have a community fun day.
The weather was great and the crowds came. The highlight of the day was opening the cornerstone from the Absecon School, known to most as the Marsh School, which was razed to make room for a new adult community, The Pinnacle at Absecon. Dignitaries and former teachers were introduced and many existing and former students attended the opening. Doctor Pitney, himself, attended to supervise the operation. It was a fun filled day.
