How to Prepare a Piano to Be Moved

0

For most piano players, their instruments are one of their most prized possessions. Whether you’re renovating your home or moving across town, relocating your piano can be a difficult task. Fortunately, there are removal services that specialise in moving pianos, but you need to prepare it first.

Check the Casters

If you own an upright piano, then most likely it will have casters to help make moving it easier to do. Before the movers arrive, inspect the casters to ensure that they are free from dust, dirt, and any debris which could prevent them from moving freely. If they are rusted, try to oil them to keep them from binding and not moving.

Clear Pathways

Whether you’ve hired a Dukinfield removals and storage company to move a piano to another house or into another room, you need to make sure there are no obstructions in the way. Providing a clear path will help prevent accidents that could get someone hurt or damage the piano or your other furniture. If you have pets, put them in another room when the movers arrive and keep your children occupied while the piano is being moved.

Lock it Down

Make sure the lids to the spindle and keyboard have been closed and locked before the removals company arrives. If there are no locks or they are broken, inform the movers so they can make sure to secure the lids so they don’t come open during the move. Prevent the surface of the piano from being scratched by dusting and polishing it before they pad it with blankets.

Moving pianos, especially grand pianos and antique models, is not an easy job and it requires preparation. While removal companies often prepare pianos for being moved, you can save time by making some of the preparations in advance of their arrival.
